What is Microsoft Access?

Microsoft Office Access is a relational database management system from Microsoft which combines the relational Microsoft Jet Database Engine with a graphical user interface and software development tools. It is a member of the 2003 and 2007 Microsoft Office system.

Does NUI, Galway have a site licence for MS Access software?

Microsoft Access is covered by The Microsoft Campus Agreement.  This agreement only applies to staff of NUI, Galway and/or PCs located on campus with work-at-home rights for permanent staff of NUI, Galway. How can I get Microsoft Access software for my computer?

• Microsoft Access 2007 is available in PC Suites – search online for relevant PC suites 
  
  
• Students 
  Students can download a free trial from the Microsoft Office web pages.
  
  
• Staff
  Staff can borrow installation CD/DVD from the Service Desk in Information Solutions and Services
  (Tel. ext. 5777, email servicedesknuigalway.ie).  If you borrow Microsoft Office software, you are obliged to sign a Licence Agreement form.
  
  Microsoft Access is available to postgraduate researchers for on-campus use only i.e. researchers who have a desktop computer linked to the campus network (excluding wireless connections). Please email servicedesknuigalway.ie to borrow a copy of the installation CD/DVD.

Can I install Microsoft Access software on my home computer?

Yes, for permanent staff members only.  Installation CD/DVD are available from the Service Desk in Information Solutions and Services (ext. 5777, email servicedesknuigalway.ie).  If you borrow Microsoft Office software, you are obliged to sign a Licence Agreement form
