What is Project Project?

Microsoft Project is a project management software program developed and sold by Microsoft which is designed to assist project managers in developing plans, assigning resources to tasks, tracking progress, managing budgets and analyzing workloads.  A Macintosh version of Project was released in July 1991 and development continued through Project 4.0 for Mac in 1993. In 1994, Microsoft stopped development of most of its Mac applications and did not offer a new version of Office until 1998, after the creation of the new Microsoft Macintosh Business Unit the year prior. The MacBU never released an updated version of Project, and the prior version from 1993 does not run natively on Mac OS X.

Does NUI, Galway have a site licence for Microsoft Project software?

Microsoft Project is covered by The Microsoft Campus Agreement.  This agreement only applies to staff of NUI, Galway and/or PCs located on campus with work-at-home rights for permanent staff of NUI, Galway. How can I get Microsoft Project software for my computer?

• Microsoft Project 2007 is available in PC Suites – search online for relevant PC suites

  Students can download a 60 Day free trial from the Microsoft Project web pages
  
  
• Staff
  Staff can borrow installation CD/DVD from the  Service Desk in Information Solutions and Services (ext. 5777, email servicedesknuigalway.ie).  If you borrow Microsoft Office software, you are obliged to sign a Licence Agreement form.
  
  Microsoft Project is available to postgraduate researchers for on-campus use only i.e. researchers who have a desktop computer linked to the campus network (excluding wireless connections). Please email servicedesknuigalway.ie to borrow a copy of the installation CD/DVD.

Can I install Microsoft Project software on my home computer?

Yes, for permanent staff members only.  Installation CD/DVD are available from the  Service Desk in Information Solutions and Services (ext. 5777, email servicedesknuigalway.ie). If you borrow Microsoft Office software, you are obliged to sign a Licence Agreement form.
