What is Microsoft Publisher?

Microsoft Office Publisher is a desktop publishing application from Microsoft. It is often considered to be an entry-level desktop publishing application, differing from Microsoft Word in that the emphasis is placed on page layout and design rather than text composition and proofing. Microsoft Publisher 2007 provides simple story editing with Microsoft Word 2007, but unlike Adobe InDesign & Adobe InCopy, it does not provide built in XML story board and copy-editing support.

Does NUI, Galway have a site licence for Microsoft Publisher software?

Microsoft Publisher is covered by The Microsoft Campus Agreement.  This agreement only applies to staff of NUI, Galway and/or PCs located on campus with work-at-home rights for permanent staff of NUI, Galway. How can I get Microsoft Publisher software for my computer?

• Microsoft Publisher 2007 is available in PC Suites – search online for relevant PC suites.

  Students can download free trial from the Microsoft Publisher web pages
  
  
• Staff
  Staff can borrow installation CD/DVD from the Service Desk in Information Solutions and Services (ext. 3325, email servicedesknuigalway.ie). If you borrow Microsoft Office software, you are obliged to sign a Licence Agreement form.
  
  Microsoft Publisher is available to postgraduate researchers for on-campus use only i.e. researchers who have a desktop computer linked to the campus network (excluding wireless connections). Please email servicedesknuigalway.ie to borrow a copy of the installation CD/DVD.

Can I install Microsoft Publisher software on my home computer?

Yes, for permanent staff members only.  Installation CD/DVD are available from the Service Desk in Information Solutions and Services (ext. 3325, email servicedesknuigalway.ie.  If you borrow Microsoft Office software, you are obliged to sign a Licence Agreement form.
