What is a Virtual Server?

A virtual server is an isolated software container that can run its own operating systems and applications as if it were a physical computer. A virtual server behaves exactly like a physical computer and contains it own virtual (i.e., software-based) CPU, RAM, hard disk and network interface card (NIC).

Virtualization essentially lets one computer do the job of multiple computers, by sharing the resources of a single computer across multiple environments. Virtual servers let you host multiple operating systems and multiple applications on a single server.
