How do staff and students get Blackboard Mobile Learn on their mobile device?

Note: to log in to the Blackboard Mobile Learn, Students must be currently registered to access the Blackboard service and Staff must be currently on the NUI Galway payroll and have an existing Blackboard account.

Follow these steps to access Blackboard Mobile Learn on your mobile device. 

Step 1 If you are using an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, open the App Store, search for Blackboard Mobile Learn, and download If you are using a Google Android, open the Android Market on your phone, search for Blackboard Mobile Learn, and download If you are using a Blackberry, open the App World, search for Blackboard Mobile Learn, and download

Step 2 Download the free app for your mobile device

Step 3 Open the Blackboard Mobile Learn app on your device.

Step 4 Enter National University of Ireland, Galway in the field provided.

Step 5 Students login using your standard User ID and password (i.e. Campus Account credentials). Staff login using your existing staff ID and password (i.e. the same credentials used for NUI Galway staff email).

What are the limitations of Mobile Learn?

Mobile Learn is primarily designed for viewing content, not for uploading new content to Blackboard. Depending on the particular device, some features will not work correctly, but you can always access these features using a browser such as Firefox or Internet Explorer on your computer.

Students should not attempt to take tests, quizzes or surveys, submit assignments or participate in Chat in Mobile Learn; instead, they should use a non-mobile Web browser for those purposes.

Staff should not attempt to upload new course content, build tests, quizzes or surveys, grade assignments or adjust Grade Center options in Mobile Learn; instead, they should use a non-mobile Web browser for those purposes.

Some features that may not work correctly on all devices are:

• Flash video
• Java-based video
• Quicktime video

Is there a charge for Blackboard Mobile Learn?

Blackboard Mobile Learn is free to all staff and students for all devices on the NUI Galway Wi-Fi network.  The charge for access using broadband or 3G will be dependent on the mobile operator you are with, and the mobile plan you are subscribed to (standard data rates apply).

I downloaded the Blackboard Learn app for iPhone/iPod Touch a while back. Is this the same thing as Blackboard Mobile Learn?

No. The Mobile Learn app has replaced the Blackboard Learn app as Blackboard’s mobile solution. The original Blackboard Learn app discontinued working for existing users on December 31, 2010.
