In Ireland, when using computer equipment purchased overseas, please be aware of voltage specifications.
For example, the voltage in the US and Canada is 100 - 120, while the voltage in the Ireland and Europe is 200 - 240. Most new laptops are dual voltage and will simply require a travel plug adapter e.g. to go from the 2-prong U.S. plug to the 3-prong plug used in Ireland. Travel plug adapters are readily available in most electrical retailers or large department stores.
Important: You are advised to check carefully if your computer equipment e.g. laptop specifies the European voltage as you could damage the equipment otherwise.
Computer manufacturers are obliged to put voltage details on equipment. Normally, the information is on the power cable that comes with the laptop. For dual voltage the specification usually looks as follows "INPUT: AC 100 – 240 V" so it is suitable for voltage between 100 and 240 V. In this case, all that is required is a travel plug adapter.
If the equipment does not specify 220 V, you will need to purchase a voltage adapter. This would not be as readily available as a travel plug adapter and the most likely sources are large computer/electrical retail outlets or alternatively, you can search online for a suitable product.
