Temporary Computer Accounts
Temporary Computer Accounts
For authorised persons not on the NUI Galway payroll or staff-sponsored visitors to NUI Galway, the following options are available for temporary access to computer resources.
All students (including temporary visiting students from other institutions) requiring access to computing services must be recorded in the NUI Galway Student Registration system.
Note: Conference participants must contact Commercial Services for temporary access to computer resources.
Temporary T account
- Allows access to the wireless network (NUIGWiFi)
- Allows access to PC Suites
- Allows Blackboard login access only
Note: Blackboard login is available 24 hours after T account creation
Note: Course participation must be requested directly from the course instructor - Default duration is 5 days
- No access to NUI Galway email
- No access to NUI Galway staff desktop computers
- No off-campus access to the staff intranet
- No access to online Library resources
- Available on request (from the Service Desk) if sponsored by a member of University staff
It is recommended that you request T accounts in advance providing a start and end date for the account usage.
External E account
- Available if external to the campus with a legitimate requirement for access to email/computer resources
- Not appropriate for anyone awaiting a staff ID number - please refer to advice for new staff
- Allows access to the wireless network (NUIGWiFi)
- Allows access to PC Suites
- Access to online Library resources
- NUI Galway email account (Office 365) automatically setup
- Allows Blackboard login access only
Note: Access to your courses is via AKARI Curriculum Management system - Default duration is until the end of the current academic year (30 June)
- Complete the External / Visitor Registration Form
Note that Head of Department sponsorship is required.
Please note the following in regards to External E accounts:
- It is the responsibility of the Approver to notify ISS when and External (E) Account is no longer required by a department.
- Any other accounts associated with External (E) Accounts and its user access will not be automatically closed unless ISS are specifically notified to close them. (i.e. Agresso, Quercus, Core etc., removal from Shared Mailboxes, M, N, Q drive etc.).
- External (E) Accounts may be reopened should the user person be redeployed within NUI Galway.
- It is advised that the email account associated with an E Account should not be used for the transfer of confidential information.
- External (E) Accounts remain accessible up to the End Date supplied on the E Account or on the annual renewal date of 30th June.
- An External (E) Accounts is only for users who are not on / or going on to the NUI, Galway payroll system.
- An External (E) Account is not available to students (including temporary visiting students from other institutions).
- The External (E) Account ID & Email Address remains with the User should they return or be re-deployed within NUI Galway.
