The Network Time Protocol (NTP) enables your operating system to automatically set the correct time of day, accurate to within a few milliseconds.

For security reasons, the University of Galway network is configured to block outgoing connections to external NTP servers. This means that your computer or server may will not be able to automatically update it's time of day to a correct and accurate value.

Information Solutions and Services (ISS) therefore provide an internal stratum-1 NTP server that can be used by client or server machines on the University of Galway network:

  • ntp.nuigalway.ie
