M: or N: Drive

What is the M: or N: Drive?

The M: or N: Drive is an area of file storage on the campus network which is made available to staff and researchers who wish to share files in a collaborative way. Note: If staff wish to share files with undergraduate students, it is recommended that the Q:Drive is used.

Why might I use the M: or N:Drive?

Staff who wish to share files in a collaborative way with other staff can use the M: or N: Drive as it provides central network file location. Files placed onto the M:Drive can be read, copied, modified or deleted by other staff who have permissions to access that M:or N: Drive.

How do I access the M: or N: Drive in the PC Suites?

Once you have requested and been assigned rights to a specific folder on the M: or N: Drive, double-click My Computer and then the M:Drive or N:Drive icon.  The folder which you have been asigned rights will be displayed. 
Note:  If  you have not been assigned rights to a folder, the M: or N: Drive folder contents will appear blank.

How do staff access the N: or N: Drive from their desktop computer?
  • Windows users
    Once you have requested and been assigned rights to a specific folder on the M: or N: Drive, and login to your PC or laptop on campus using your campus account  credentials - double-click My Computer and then the M: Drive or N:Drive icon.
How do I access the M: or N: Drive off-campus or using Wi-Fi (NUIGWiFi or eduroam)?

How do staff request access to write to the M: or N: Drive?

Contact the Service Desk to log a support ticket for access to the M: or N: Drive (please specify the folder name). Please note that students will not be granted access to the M: or N: Drive.
