How to open an Adobe (PDF) file from a web browser
If you wish to open an Adobe (PDF) file in Blackboard or from any other web site in the PC Suites, please review the instructions below:
Using Internet Explorer
- Launch Internet Explorer from the NUI Galway Applications window
Do NOT use the Start menu. PDF documents will not open correctly if you launch IE using the Start button. An error will appear complaining about the version of Adobe Reader - Right-click on the Adobe (PDF) file, select Save Target As to save the file to your U: Drive
- Open My Computer, select the saved the Adobe (PDF) file and then open it.
Using Firefox
- Launch Firefox from the NUI Galway Applications window
- Right-click on the Adobe (PDF) file, select Save Target As to save the file to your U: Drive
- Open My Computer, select the saved the Adobe (PDF) file and then open it.
Green ICT Information
In line with good practice, energy savings measures in the PC suites are as follows: 
- After 20 minutes of idle time, the hard disk and monitor are put into sleep mode.
Hitting a key or moving a mouse will wake them up. - After 1 hour of idle time, PCs are shutdown. To wake up a PC, the power button should be pressed.
- At night all PCs are shut down from 22:30. They can be woken up the following day by pressing the power button.
- If a user remains logged in when the PC goes into shutdown state, any unsaved work will be lost.
