NUI Galway and Cisco Announce Sponsorship of Best Project Prizes in Information Technology 2010
Mike Conroy, general manager, R&D, Cisco Ireland said: “We have seen first-hand the high level of innovation happening at NUI Galway and today we are delighted to further build our relationship with the College by highlighting outstanding student IT projects.” He added: “The supply of highly talented IT graduates is critical to the development of our business. It is important to recognise those students who are planning a career path in IT by rewarding them during their studies.” Prof. Gerry Lyons, head of the Information Technology discipline at NUIG welcomed Cisco as the new corporate sponsor for Best Projects in IT degree programmes. “We believe this is a strong endorsement of the commercial relevance of our degree programmes, and underlines our commitment to innovation, professionalism and research at NUI Galway. We place a huge emphasis on Final Year Project work,” he said. He added: “These projects are a proving-ground for research and commercial business opportunities. Partnering with a blue-chip global company like Cisco gives students the added motivation and ambition to deliver excellent work.” The B.Sc. (Computer Science & Information Technology) at NUI Galway, is one of just 2 academic programmes in Ireland which is accredited by Engineers Ireland as a professional Software Engineering degree.
