Week of Wonder 2010
On Thursday 11th February, the College of Engineering and Informatics hosted a daylong event, attracting over 120 Galway primary school pupils. There was an enthusiastic atmosphere as the primary school students had an opportunity to interact with and see demonstrations of practical applications in all branches of engineering, including Information Technology.
Information Technology provided a demonstration on "Prophecy Master" morphing software. Morphing is a special effect that changes (or morphs) one image into another through a seamless transition. The primary school pupils thoroughly enjoyed the demos and had an opportunity to view different images of themselves.
There was also a challenge set by Information Technology with students having to solve a mathematical clue to determine how many sweets were in a jar. Many students came close to the correct number but there was only one winner – Seán Monaghan, who received a Next Generation iPod for his efforts. Seán is a 5th class pupil of Scoil Iognaid and is seen here with his class and his teacher Grace Lavelle, and Dr. Jim Duggan, Head of Information Technology.
