Dr Frances Fahy

Influencing Environmental Priorities

Dr Fahy has made great strides in both raising the profile of Geography at NUI Galway and has made significant and numerous contributions to national and international policy debates and influencing environmental priorities. Dr Fahy has promoted Geography as a subject across the Island of Ireland, establishing National Geography Awareness Week and connecting with Geography teachers at primary and post-primary levels. Dr Fahy has also worked extensively on developing environmental policy and shaping how environmental research is funded on the island of Ireland

Dr Fahy’s application, detailed many and varied efforts at Societal impact, evidencing examples of depth, longevity, significant reach and impact on shaping environmental policy and how research is funded in Ireland.  Her work has informed many national and international policy debates and has been influential in setting future research agendas and identifying environmental priorities. Furthermore, she evidenced many efforts at developing the profile of geography at NUI Galway both nationally and Internationally.

The application showed a good example of how research expertise can impact on policy, network and community development
