Research in University of Galway

NUI Galway is world-renowned as an expert research-led University.  We emphasise interdisciplinary research programmes, and collaborations with industry partners in areas of strategic importance, both regionally and nationally. Situated on the edge of Europe, NUI Galway is a dynamic location for research and innovation.  Our approach is to be collaborative, creative, interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial. We partner with almost 3,000 research institutes worldwide to create global networks of expertise.

In the past ten years, our researchers have tripled their annual output of indexed publications, quadrupled the number of invention disclosures made annually and increased the annual number of citations by a factor of five. In the past decade, we have also more than doubled our annual number of research graduates.  A number of NUI Galway researchers have been included among the most "influential names in science", according to Thomson Reuters. The list is a citation analysis identifying scientists ­ as determined by their fellow researchers ­ whose research has had a significant global impact within their respective fields of study.

10th April 2024QS World University Subject Rank 2024: University of Galway  achieved a global rank in 24 subjects, up from 23 in 2023, with a Top 100 Global Rank in 3 subjects.

University of Galway has climbed in the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2023,  into the 301-350 category, up from the 351-400 category last year.
