NUI Galway is world-renowned as an expert research-led University.  We emphasise interdisciplinary research programmes, and collaborations with industry partners in areas of strategic importance, both regionally and nationally. Situated on the edge of Europe, NUI Galway is a dynamic location for research and innovation.  Our approach is to be collaborative, creative, interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial. We partner with almost 3,000 research institutes worldwide to create global networks of expertise.

In the past ten years, our researchers have tripled their annual output of indexed publications, quadrupled the number of invention disclosures made annually and increased the annual number of citations by a factor of five. In the past decade, we have also more than doubled our annual number of research graduates.  A number of NUI Galway researchers have been included among the most "influential names in science", according to Thomson Reuters. The list is a citation analysis identifying scientists as determined by their fellow researchers whose research has had a significant global impact within their respective fields of study.
