NUI Galway, International Summer School, John Mcgahern international seminar & summer school
The John McGahern International Seminar to commemorate the life and work of one of Ireland’s best known writers will be organised within County Leitrim by the National University of Ireland, Galway in partnership with Leitrim County Council during July 22-24, 2010.
The third John McGahern International Summer School will combine the annual John McGahern International Seminar (July 22-24) with a subsequent week of intensive workshops and seminars on McGahern’s work and its contexts (July 25–31). All events and classes will be held in County Leitrim.
Students will attend all lectures and sessions during the Seminar and will have been allocated related assignments in advance. These projects will be the basis for workshops scheduled for the morning sessions of the Summer School. Workshop sessions will take place each day from 10.00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Afternoon sessions will run from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. These will take the form of specially dedicated seminars delivered in two-day sets. Any required reading will be indicated in advance by the seminar leaders. There will also be a special guest talk on the local dimension of McGahern’s work and there will be an opportunity to experience local social and cultural events. The Summer School will be located in Co. Leitrim, in the heart of John McGahern country.
