NUI Galway has amongst the largest number
of graduates in China of any Irish university,
many working as senior academics in faculties of China’s top universities.

The growing network of NUI Galway graduates in China plays an important role in reinforcing our research links with some of China’s leading universities, including Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Technology and Harbin Institute of Technology.

The University’s Chinese Students and Scholars Union also plays an important role in welcoming new Chinese students to Galway and provides a platform for showcasing Chinese educational and cultural achievements on campus.

Undergraduate Applications

Entry Requirements
NUI Galway welcomes applications from students who have completed 12 years of education and
received the Secondary School Leaving Certificate Students must also complete a recognised
foundation programme prior to entry to year one of an Undergraduate degree programme.
NUI Galway recognises the NCUK foundation programme, which is delivered in centres both in
China and in Ireland.

Postgraduate Applications

Entry Requirements
Entry requirements for postgraduate taught and research programmes vary. However, generally the
minimum academic requirement is a good 4 year Bachelor degree (80%) in a cognate area from a
recognised University.

How to Apply
Postgraduate applications are made via the Postgraduate Applications Centre website. All
required supporting documentation (transcripts, certificates, etc.) should be posted to PAC.

Note: Research Masters and PhD applicants are strongly advised to contact the relevant College, School or Division of the University to ascertain whether a member of staff is available to
supervise their research programmes, before submitting a formal application via the PAC website.

All applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence that their English language
ability meets the required standard for admission.

IELTS score of 6.5*; TOEFL (paper based) score
of 580; TOEFL (computer based) score of 240;
TOEFL (internet based) score of 92.

Science/Engineering/IT
IELTS score of 6.0;TOEFL (paper based) score
of 550; TOEFL (computer based) score of 213;
TOEFL (internet based) score of 80.
