Study Abroad Programme
Undergraduate students from overseas universities and colleges can apply to study at NUI Galway for Semester One (Fall), Semester Two (Spring) or for a full year.
As a Study Abroad/Visiting student, you can take a full academic load of up to five or six classes per semester from across a wide range of subject areas (subject to certain pre-requisites) to meet your individual academic requirements.
It is our policy that all visiting students take the usual classes and assessments of the University alongside our full time degree-seeking students. This means that here, you will benefit from a fully integrated international educational experience.
The majority of classes are semester long and are delivered via a combination of lectures and smaller seminar/tutorial classes, or laboratory classes in the case of Science and Engineering.
Certain classes may be examined by end of semester exam, while others may combine an end of semester exam with mid term assignments and/or continuous assessment.
Visiting students do not receive a degree from NUI Galway, however for most students, the credits they earn here can transfer back to their home institution. We have many years’ experience in dealing with the matter of credit transfer
and course equivalence and can, on request, suggest a system to translate from ECTS to North American credits.
