Orientation Programmes

Welcome to NUI Galway. We hope that you will have an enjoyable and rewarding time here. It is very important to attend the relevant Orientation Programme, as experience has shown that students who participate in the programme have an easier and more successful transition into life at NUI Galway and into their new environment.

The purpose of orientation is to welcome you to the University, and to introduce you to our academic programmes and to the student support services available to you while you are here. You will also be taken on a tour of the campus and of Galway city.

Students not in a position to attend the International Student Orientation scheduled for Thursday January 5th will have an opportunity to meet staff of the International Affairs Office on the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th January from 12 noon - 1pm and on Friday, 13th from 2.30 - 3.30pm at our Fáilte (welcome) Mornings. Fáilte mornings will take place in The Art Room, Áras na Mac Leinn.

Orientation programme for International Students, January 2012

Day 1 Orientation Day (9.30 a.m. - 1.00 p.m., Bailey Allen Hall, Aras na MacLeinn)	5 January 2012
Day 2 Academic Advisory Sessions for visiting students (9.30 a.m., Bailey Allen Hall)	6 January 2012
Day 3 Illustrated Talk on Historical Galway & Walking Tour of Galway city (weather permitting)	8 January 2012
Teaching for visiting students begins	9 January 2012

Please note: NUI Galway provides a number of different Orientation Programmes for different categories of new incoming International Students.

A Visiting Student is a student of another University, admitted to NUI Galway to undertake a programme of study, normally for one year or one semester. If you are attending NUI Galway on a Study Abroad or Erasmus programme, you are a Visiting Student.
A Full Degree Undergraduate Student is a student who is taking their entire Bachelor degree at NUI Galway.
A Postgraduate Student is a student taking a Graduate Diploma, Masters or PhD level programme at NUI Galway.
