CHILDREN'S GERMAN SUMMER SCHOOL, 16th - 23rd JULY 2012

This summer, for the first time, the discipline of German at NUI Galway offers free German courses for children (there will be a small charge for material and lunch). The Summer School will be divided into two main parts. Taster Sessions for children of all ages will take place from July 16-20, followed by a 5-Day Crash Course in the week July 23-27 for children aged 10-12 (fourth, fifth and sixth class).  The Children's Summer School at NUI Galway combines learning and pleasure. It will be a great opportunity for children to encounter German language and culture while having fun.

The first week of our Children's Summer School will consist of five one-day Taster Sessions dedicated to expanding the children's knowledge of German language and culture. We welcome all children between ages 5 and 14 (maximum number 15). Each day will have a fun workshop on a different aspect of German language and involve a different creative activity, appealing to different age groups, for example working with well-known German songs, producing a short film, following a treasure hunt that takes them through a fictive Germany!

During the second week of the Children's Summer School at NUIG, we are offering a 5-Day Crash Course for learning basic features of the German language. It is especially designed for children aged 10 to 12 who will soon be able to opt for a foreign language at secondary school.

Students are taught in small groups where they will get an introduction to grammar, vocabulary and structure of German by qualified native speakers. The children will have fun while learning because of our concept which imparts basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, using child friendly teaching methods with a lot of games and time for having fun in class. And the more they enjoy the lessons, the easier it will be for them to learn.  As the teaching units are consecutive, students attend the course from Monday to Friday.
