Andrea Coomber is the Interim Legal Director of INTERIGHTS
(The International Centre for the Legal Protection of Human Rights),
where she has been a lawyer since October 2002. Until her recent
appointment as Interim Legal Director, Andrea was responsible for the
direction and implementation of INTERIGHTS' Equality Programme,
which seeks to protect against all forms of discrimination through
a combination of litigation, training and publications work. Working
across grounds of discrimination, Andrea assists lawyers in the
drafting of applications to regional and international human rights
bodies, and submits amicus briefs in cases of strategic
significance. An Australian national, Andrea has previously worked
in human rights in South Asia, Egypt and Geneva. She has
a particular interest in the human rights of people with
disabilities and is increasingly conversant in British Sign Language.
