
Professor Lisa Waddington holds the Chair in European Disability
Law at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. The Chair is supported
by the European Disability Forum. Professor Waddington received
her Doctorate of Law in 1993 from the European University Institute
in Florence, Italy, for her dissertation: ‘More Disabled Than
Others. The Employment of Disabled People within the European Community:
An Analysis of Existing Measures and Proposals for Reform'.
Between 1993 and 2004 she was the editor of the Maastricht Journal
of European and Comparative Law, and a lecturer and senior lecturer
at Maastricht University. In 2000, Professor Waddington received
an ASPASIA subsidy from the NWO (Netherlands Organisation for Scientific
Research) for the enhancement of the number of women in higher
academic positions. In collaboration with universities and international
institutions in Belgium and Ireland she presently coordinates a
large EU research and education project with regard to European
non-discrimination law, of which this summer school is a part.
