Ursula Connolly is a graduate of NUI, Galway and of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, where she was awarded a masters degree specialising in European and International law, in 1998. Following the completion of her masters she taught Labour Law at the University of Limerick (1999 – 2001). She has been a lecturer at the Law Faculty, NUI, Galway, Ireland, since September 2001 where she teaches primarily in the area of Tort Law.
She was appointed as the Irish contributor for the Common Core on European Private Law project in 2005 (
www.jus.unitn.it/dsg/common-core ) in the area of Personal Injury Compensation. She is a founding member of the Centre for Research on Occupational and Lifestyle Stress (
http://www.nuigalway.ie/psychology/crols.htm), an interdisciplinary research unit based at NUI Galway. The Centre is dedicated to research on the impact of stress in occupational and lifestyle contexts.
She acted as project consultant for the European Project on Disability Discrimination (
www.euroddlaw.com) from 2004 to 2006. This project was designed to provide training on the disability aspects of the Framework Directive on Equal Treatment at Work (Directive 2000/78/EC) to NGOs representing people with disabilities. This training was provided in Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Hungary and Estonia from 2004 to 2006.
Ms. Connolly acted as an external examiner for the Dublin Institute of Technology from 2004 - 2009.
She was a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley during September 2009 and spent two months at the University of Otago, New Zealand during October and November 2009 researching New Zealand’s Accident Compensation Corporation scheme.
