The Annual Ireland Summer Academy brings US law students from several US law schools to Ireland each year for an intensive 6-credit four-week study programme. The American Bar Association is the accrediting body. This four-week Summer School focuses primarily on European Law, and also contains comparative and international law subjects such as Comparative Health Law, Human Rights and Business Law.

This programme is in its ninth year, originally run by University College Dublin and the University of Missouri Kansas City, this is the fourth year of NUI, Galway’s involvement. Shivaun Quinlivan is the Associate Director of the UMKC Annual Ireland Summer Academy. Ms. Quinlivan commenced teaching on this programme five years ago, and brought the Galway leg to the programme four years ago.The Faculty of the Summer School is made up of lecturers from NUI, Galway, UCD, UMKC (University of Missouri Kansas City) and SIU Law School (Southern Illinois University). The Annual Ireland Summer Law Academy is split between three locations. The summer school commences in Dingle where the students get their introduction to EU Law, they study in the Corca Dhuibne centre. From there the school relocates to Galway, for a mix of free days and study in NUI, Galway. The students study EU anti-discrimination law with Shivaun Quinlivan. The final leg of the journey is the move to Dublin and more specifically UCD.
