INSPIRE The Integrated Nanoscience Platform for Ireland was officially launched by Dr. Jimmy Devins T.D., Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation.
LightHouse is one of ten partners in this national consortium, leading the strand on nano-photonics research.

LightHOUSE: Centre for Applied Photonics, conducts research and technology development in the areas of:
  • Laser microfabrication
  • Photonics-based Nanotechnology
  • Smart optics Imaging
  • Optical characterisation

The centre is a research partnership which combines the expertise of the National Centre for Laser Applications (NCLA) and the Applied Optics Group, both located in the Department of Physics NUI Galway, into a centre of excellence in applied photonics with regional and national impact and importance on the international research stage.



INSPIRE is a consortium of all Irish third level institutions with international leading research capability in nanoscience and nanotechnology. INSPIRE was recently funded to the level of €31.6M by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) via PRTLI4.This was the largest funding allocation to a national consortium.
