Management
The Discipline of Management is one of five disciplines at the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics. The Discipline of Management consists of 11 full time faculty and builds on a 150 year tradition of innovative teaching and research at NUI,Galway.
The key teaching programmes of the Discipline include a stream on human resource management on the undergraduate Bachelor of Commerce programme and three masters programmes. MSc in Industrial Relations and People Management, MSc in International Management and MSc in Strategy, Innovation and People Management. The quality of teaching in the discipline has been recognised by a President’s Award for Teaching and Learning for a staff member.
Our staff are some of the thought leaders in the broad discipline areas of human resource management, industrial relations, organisational behaviour, strategy, enterprise development and innovation. Their active research programmes ensure that the material delivered CairnesSchool’s suite of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes reflects the very latest thinking in industry. This is also reflected in their publications in leading international journals such as: Asia Pacific Journal of Management, British Journal of Industrial Relations, International Journal of Human Resource Management, International Journal of Management Reviews, Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management Journal, Human Resource Management Review, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Organizational Research Methods, Regional Studies and Work Employment and Society.
Our staff also hold editorial roles and editorial board memberships at top national and international journals. Our faculty are editors of Human Resource Management Journal and the Irish Journal of Management and editorial board members at European Journal of International Management, International Journal of Management Reviews, Journal of World Business, Journal of European Industrial Training, Work, Employment and Society.
The Discipline has very strong links with local industry. This is evidenced through ongoing research and consulting projects with a number of leading organisations.
