Part-Time Courses for Prospective Mature Students
Access Course For Mature Persons
NUI Galway provides an Access Programme for people from backgrounds of "socio-economic disadvantage". The programme includes an Access course for Mature Applicants (over 22 years on January 1st of year of entry) who, for financial or related reasons were unable to proceed to Higher Education.
The Access course for Mature Applicants is provided at several centres including NUI Galway, Sligo, Clifden, and Ballinasloe. Participants who successfully complete an Access course will be eligible to apply for direct entry to full-time University Degree courses in the Colleges of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies, Business, Public Policy and Law, Science and Engineering and Informatics.

DFS 1- Science, Technology and Engineering
(Foundation Studies Diploma)
This intensive part-time course is for Mature Applicants interested in applying for entry to full-time Science, Engineering and I.T. courses at either GMIT or NUI Galway and runs September, two nights per week and all day Saturday (two per month). The duration of the course is 26 weeks. The course includes only Science, Mathematics, IT, Educational Guidance, Study Skills and Academic Writing. The course is intended for anybody wishing to study Science, Engineering or I.T. degrees in 2018.
The on-line application system opens in July. You will need to upload a passport photo and a photocopy of passport/birth cert or marriage cert.
The application fee is non-refundable paid by Credit Card/Laser and costs €30 (pay another €30 upon acceptance and balance is paid by postal order made out to NUI Galway when you commence studies in September - €320) Do not post to the university. It will be collected in full in September at Orientation. Orientation is September 9th at 2pm, IT250, Orbsen Building.
If employed the cost of the course is €380.
If unemployed the cost of the course is €60. Upload evidence of your Social Welfare Payment with your application.

DFS8 Business (Foundation studies Diploma)
