Part-Time Courses for Prospective Mature Students

 DFS1  Science, Technology and Engineering - CLOSED

(Foundation Studies Diploma)

This intensive part-time course is taught at NUI Galway for Mature Applicants aged 22 or over interested in applying for entry to full-time Science, Engineering and I.T. courses at either GMIT or NUI Galway and runs September, two nights per week and all day Saturday (two per month). The duration of the course is 26 weeks. The course includes Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, IT, Skills for College and Career, Academic Study Skills and Academic Writing. The course is intended for anybody wishing to study Science, Engineering, I.T., or Health Sciences degrees in 2019.

The on-line application system opens on the 5th of July. You will need to upload a passport photo and a photocopy of passport/birth cert or marriage cert.

The non- refundable application fee is paid by Credit Card/Laser and costs €30 (pay another €30 upon acceptance and balance of €320 is paid by postal order made out to NUI Galway when you commence studies in September.   Do not post to the university. It will be collected in full in September at Orientation. Orientation is September 8th at 2pm, IT250, Orbsen Building.

If employed the cost of the course is €380. 
If unemployed the cost of the course is €60.

The duration of the course is 26 weeks.  The course includes Accountancy, Economics, Mathematics, Business Skills, Information Technology, Skills for College and Career, Academic Study Skills and Academic Writing.

You will need to upload a passport photo and a photocopy of passport/birth cert or marriage cert.

DFS9  Business, Law and Arts ( GMIT Castlebar) -  (Foundation Studies Diploma) OPEN

This intensive part-time classroom based course  taught at Castlebar GMIT Campus in partnership with NUI Galway. Applicants can choose to study the diploma either at NUI Galway (DFS8 above)  or at GMIT Castlebar (DFS 9) which are run simultaneously at both institutions. It specifically targets mature students aged 22 or over who upon completion want to prepare to enter degree programmes at NUI Galway or Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology in the areas of Business, Law or Arts. Courses begin in early September and finish in April.

The GMIT  Castlebar Campus course oreintation starts Thursday 6th September at 10am in Room P002 and the course itself runs Monday 6pm to 9.15pm, Wednesday 6pm to 9.45pm and Thursday 6pm to 8pm. Subjects taught are Accountancy, Economics, Mathematics, Business Skills, Information Technology, Skills for College and Career, Academic Study Skills and Academic Writing.

If in full time employment the cost of the course is €380.
If on social welfare then the total cost is 60 euros.
