Organisations now operate in a global environment and it is important to understand different perspectives and experiences in an international context. Combining tuition and experiential learning in a global business context the International Leadership Gateway Experience is an intensive tailored programme currently delivered in collaboration with our academic partner Fordham University, NY (Lincoln Center Campus, Manhattan). The experience gives students the opportunity to visit businesses, attend lectures, and interact with business leaders in an international context. The programme pivots around your personal leadership development.

MBA students complete a week-long International Leadership Gateway programme with our partner MBA University at Fordham University in New York City. Participants are exposed to the most up-to-date current and modern academic thinking and practice through a series of seminars and lectures such as “Value Investing: From Ben Graham to Warren Buffet”, James Kelly; “Finance & Global Sustainability”, Frank Werner; “Mobilizing Change Through Executive Leadership”, Bill Catucci; “Stories from Wall Street”, John Tognino. There are many innovative methods for programme delivery such as learning “Teamwork through Jazz” at the world famous Lincoln Centre.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s is another key event during the NUI Galway MBA International Leadership Gateway trip. The students are briefed by the Chief Financial Officer at its headquarters at 5th Avenue. This has been a highlight of the trip to date, where the group learn about the importance of brand in the luxury market. The CFO reflects on the history of Tiffany & Co since its inception in 1837 and discusses the importance of corporate social responsibility, image and brand as Tiffany & Co further expands its global footprint. For the past few years, we have visited the UN headquarters for a talk and tour, as well as other prominent companies across New York City.

A highlight is an interactive panel organised and sponsored by the Galway University Foundation entitled “Career Reflections: Looking Back, Looking Forward”. The event provided students with insights from guest speakers who have achieved significant international career success. All of the speakers, many of whom are NUI Galway graduates, advised on how to craft successful careers drawing from their own varied and diverse experiences. The panel reflected on the challenges ahead for executives and business leaders. The event has been hosted at various New York locations, including the New York Athletic Club on Central Park.

Each speaker was of an extremely high calibre and brought their own vast wisdom and experience to the table. Overall it was an inspirational event and provided great insight as well as practical advice.
