masters in Medical Science (Musculoskeletal Medicine)

A specific programme designed for medical professionals specialising in integrated musculoskeletal practice. This exciting new programme is aimed at establishing a method of musculoskeletal assessment, clinical reasoning and choice of appropriate treatment of the spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions presenting at the frontline. The programme incorporates critical evaluation of the existing tenets of musculoskeletal medicine practice, and includes mastery of the skills required to undertake advanced research and develop innovative skills in practice.

Courses are offered at Diploma and Masters Level and combine Practical Training with advanced Medical Research.

Diploma in Medical Science (Musculoskeletal Medicine)

(2 Practical training modules combined with 4 research modules- 1 Year Part Time 60 ECTS)

Modules Semester 1: September-December

Musculoskeletal Medicine I
Informatics I
Biostatistics I

Modules Semester 2: January-April

Musculoskeletal Medicine II
Informatics II
Biostatistics II

The Musculoskeletal Medicine components of the programme include:

Connective tissue injury/repair
Pain theory
Fundamentals of examination and treatment
Choice of appropriate imaging
Introduction of injection treatment

The informatics and biostatistics modules include searching and critical appraisal of scientific information,
formulating research questions, interpreting evidence based guidelines and protocols relating to patient
information systems.

Masters in Medical Science (Musculoskeletal Medicine)

One year programme consisting of additional research modules and the publication of research thesis

1 Year part time 60 ECTS

Research modules:

Evaluate published research
Design your own research project
Produce an appropriate research proposal and complete a research Thesis
Publish results in core para-medical journal

Entry to the Masters programme requires successful completion of the Postgraduate
