Dr. Thomas Kropmans [ Head of MIME domain ]

Dr. Thomas Kropmans  is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Informatics and Medical Education. His research interests include postgraduate medical education and continuing professional development, and the application of information and communication technologies to support evidence practice in both hospital and community based health care.

Gloria Avalos [ Data Co-ordinator / Lecturer ]

Gloria Avalos is a specialist in survey research data management within the College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences of the National University of Ireland, Galway. She is based in the domain of Medical Informatics and Medical Education of the Divison of Medicine as a Data Co-ordinator for research studies. Additionally she lectures in the areas of statistics and computers as applied to medicine and nursing in the faculty.

Ben Kanagaratnam [ Project Manager /Medical IT]

Ben Kanagaratnam has worked in the field of Medical Informatics since 1981. His main area of work is to give advice and support on subjects related to the application of Information technology in Medicine and Health Sciences.  He also co-ordinates the Medical Informatics practical classes. His research interests include designing large databases to store, retrieve and analyze medical data, developing systems to monitor student performance and improve teaching skills. He also worked as a programmer in EU funded research projects in developing Computer Aided Medical diagnostic systems.

Dr. Micheál Newell [Lecturer]

Dr Newell is a qualified Sports and Exercise Scientist with a Doctorate degree in Integrated Biology. His research interests include injury epidemiology and injury prevention, physiological performance and assessment in sports and exercise, as well as  the development of dynamic, creative, and innovative learning strategies for medical education. In addition to lecturing in Medical Education, Dr Newell is the academic co-ordinator of the MIME postgraduate programmes and the postgraduate programmes in Sports and Exercise Medicine/Physiotherapy.
