Biography

Dr. Hazel Killeen, BScOT, PhD, is a full-time Lecturer in the discipline of Occupational Therapy in the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI Galway) since 2010.

In 1998, Hazel completed her primary degree in Occupational Therapy at Trinity College, Dublin. Over the next 12 years, Hazel worked clinically in the public sector, in private practice and on a voluntary capacity in the area of paeditric occupational therapy. During this time she had the opportunity of experiencing a diverse range of international healthcare systems through her clinical work and training in paediatrics in Ireland, Australia, The United States, Siberia and Canada.

In 2016, Hazel graduated with her PhD on the impact of preterm birth on the adaptive behaviour and participation of preterm infants. Following completion of her PhD she completed 6 months of postdoctoral training in McGill University, Montreal, Canada. Hazel continues to have a strong link with McGill University, and is currently undertaking an intervention study for former preterm infants with colleagues from the McGill School of Physical and Occupational Therapy.
 
 

 
 

Research Interests

Dr. Killeen's area of interest is in Childhood Disability Research.

Dr. Killeen's PhD study focused on the adaptive behaviour and participation of very low birth weight infants at 2- 5 years 6 months of age. She is co-principal investigator of an intervention study for participation of former preterm infants with Dr. Dana Anaby, McGill University, Canada.
