School of Medicine
Our Commitment To Excellence In Medicine
The University is committed to providing the most up-to-date facilities and resources for the study of medicine and health sciences at our Galway campus. An energetic building programme is underway, with new buildings coming on stream to accommodate new programmes and expanding enrolments.Undergraduates
The School of Medicine, based in the Clinical Science Institute, has an enrolment of c.800 students. University College Hospital, Galway is the major teaching hospital of the Medical School. School members are highly qualified and the University has an extensive and well-funded programme of medical research.
Building for the Future
We are developing Medical Academies for Teaching and Research in Sligo, Letterkenny, Mayo and Ballinasloe.
The construction of a €40 million Human Biology building on campus will be completed in Autumn 2016.
The recently completed Clinical and Translational Research Facility adjacent to the Clinical Science Institute was jointly funded by the University, the Health Research Board and the Health Services Executive.
Postgraduates

School members are engaged in innovative research in many areas, with particular emphasis on cancer, gene and stem cell therapy and biomedical engineering science.
Research undertaken by members, is aligned to the priority research areas of the Universtiy and staff participate in research as part of multi-disciplinary teams. We collaborate with many research institutes and centres including NCBES, CURAM, REMEDI, The Martin Ryan Institute, Galway Diabetes Research Centre, Galway Neuroscience Centre and the Clinical Research Facility.

The School of Medicine has a large number of international students and staff from countries such as Australia, Brunei, Canada, Great Britain, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, South Korea, Kuwati, Malaysia, Nigeria, Norway, Singapore, Sweden and USA.
We welcome exchange students, visiting students, and full-time students from all over the world. We value the richness and diversity of experience that international students bring to our community.
