Athena Swan at the School of Medicine, NUI Galway

The School of Medicine (SoM) is committed to upholding the principles of the Equality Challenge Unit’s Athena Swan Charter. The Athena Swan charter is focused on addressing gender inequality in academia, and ensuring equality opportunity and fair working conditions for all. Our aim within the School of Medicine is to create an environment in which all staff and students succeed and thrive, feel supported, valued and included, and in which all forms of staff and student achievements are recognised.

In November 2017, we received departmental Athena Swan Bronze Award accreditation, becoming the first Irish School of Medicine to achieve this. Our application will be made available online shortly. In the interim the feedback on application, which we received from the Equality Challenge Unit, may be viewed here.

Summary of SoM's Athena Swan Action Plan
