Welcome to Mayo Medical Academy

 Mayo Medical Academy is a branch of NUI Galway Medical School.  There are approximately 60 students here currently in their third/fourth and final year of training.  The Academy started in 2012 and moved into its current premises in 2015.

The Academy is a peripheral academy of NUI Galway.  Each student who attends is in the Academy for a full year and becomes integrated in Mayo University Hospital.

Transport - how to get here?


Knock International Airport is 40km north of Castlebar. 

The cost of a taxi from Knock to Castlebar is approximately €55. Alternatively,  Bus Eireann operates a bus service from the airport to Castlebar.  Please click here for futher details. 


There is a train service from Castlebar to Dublin which takes approximately 3.5 hours.  Please see the Irish Rail website for timetable information.

Bus Eireann operate regular country-wide bus services to and from Castlebar.

Mayo Adventure Experience is an outdoor activity company based in the heart of Castlebar at Lough Lannagh. The company offers a range of activities for all abilities, in and out of the water. Activities include team building, orienteering, canoeing and stand up paddling.  Water based activities range from 1 hour taster sessions up to overnight expeditions; the centre will  cater to your needs as requested.  Orienteering courses and mapping are also being offered to schools and clubs around the county.
