The School's vision is to provide educational programmes that prepare safe, skilled, competent and confident practitioners; and conduct research that improves care, quality of life or health and well-being.

Our undergraduate students will engage in practical learning in our labs and facilities. Our postgraduate students benefit from Blended Learning - a combination of online and face-to-face learning.

Undergraduates

Our undergraduate programmes will provide you with the skills and knowledge to meet the challenges of a changing healthcare environment, nationally and internationally.

Our undergraduate students have a remarkable record of success, and are recognised each year in the Dr Henry Hutchinson Stewart Medical Scholarships and Prizes. 

On successful completion of the programme, graduate are eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) and practise as a registered nurse or midwife.

Our Commitment To Excellence In Research

The School of Nursing and Midwifery is research-intensive with a reputation for high quality, internationally relevant research. Our research, expertise and activities are centred on the themes of Healthy and Active Ageing, Maternity Care and Women's Health, and Randomised Trials and Evidence Synthesis.  Research at the School aims to improve nursing and midwifery practice, the health of those receiving nursing and midwifery care and inform health care policy.

Our postgraduate programmes will equip you with the knowledge and skills to further your personal and professional goals, providing you with opportunities for role exapnsion and improving healthcare in your area of practice.

Our Commitment To Nursing and Midwifery Education

We provide high-quality, practice-focused and innovative programmes.

Through our undergraduate programmes, you will acquire essential clinical skills in our labs and facilities, which have been purpose-built for our nursing and midwifery students. Our facilities will enable you to practise your clinical and decision-making skills in a safe and supervised environment.

Our postgraduate programmes are delivered via Blended Learning. With a combination of online and face-to-face learning, our programmes are accessible to health professionals with full-time work committments. 

International Students

The School of Nursing and Midwifery has established strong international links with partner universities, which provides our staff and students with a range of international experiences. 

International experiences are available to students studying our Bachelor of Nursing Science (General) and Bachelor of Nursing Science (Psychiatric) programmes. 

There are opportunities for international students to study at the School for a short-term period, through our Study Abroad programmes. Postgraduate programme options are also available.
