Public Lecture Series: Ebola - The Facts

Public Lecture Series Ebola Information

NUI Galway’s School of Nursing and Midwifery held a free public lecture on Ebola - The Facts on Tuesday 18 November 2014. The talk focused on how Ebola spreads and affects the human body,  how the outbreak can be contained, and the importance of hand washing to prevent the spread of infections in the community.

Dr. Diarmuid O’Donovan, Senior Lecturer in Social and Preventive Medicine at NUI Galway and Director of Public Health (HSE West) delivered the lecture with Evelyn Byrne, lecturer from the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Dr. O’Donovan recently returned from working with the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the Ebola response and gave a fascinating insight into his experience, concentrating on Ebola and its containment. Evelyn Byrne explained why hand washing is important to prevent the spread of infections and provided a demonstration on effective hand washing.

This was the second Public Lecture Series event, an innovative community outreach initiative introduced by the School of Nursing and Midwifery earlier 2014.
