To be considered for admission to the School of Medicine, NUI Galway, students must meet the following requirements:
Applicants must show evidence of a high level of performance in second-level studies and must be eligible for matriculation in the National University of Ireland. For matriculation, students must have completed the full second-level course of their own countries and their studies must have included English, Mathematics, a Laboratory Science subject, a second language and two other acceptable subjects. Two at least of the six subjects must have been taken throughout the whole period of their second-level studies.
The minimal matriculation requirements of the National University of Ireland are: Passes in 6 recognised subjects with at least two subjects at Grade C or better in GCE A-Levels or equivalent, and at least four subjects at Grade C or better in GCE O-Levels or equivalent.
Students may also present passes in six subjects drawn from Cambridge Overseas Higher School Certificate or STPM Examinations and School Certificate Examinations or SPM Examinations in order to satisfy the University's matriculation requirements.
Students may present results in the International Baccalaureate for University Matriculation requirements. Minimum attainment of 36 points in the International Baccalaureate is required, as follows: Minimum Higher Grade 6 in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics. Minimum Grade 6 in the remaining three subjects.
Other qualifications will be considered for the six-year Medical Course.
AAA GCE A-Levels in the three laboratory science subjects: Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
Students with two science subjects, one of which must be Chemistry, the other either Biology or Physics and Mathematics at an AAA level will be accepted into the five-year course if the student has obtained an A at O-Levels or the equivalent in the third science subject (the one which is not being presented for A-Levels).
A positive result will debar.
