In addition to the medical and counselling services available to overseas students while attending the university, students have ready access to the Dean and other members of academic staff and to the general and specialist offices of the University, including the Accommodation Office, Student Services Office and in particular the School's Office in the Clinical Science Institute.
The University has a full-time overseas student officer in the International Office, who will meet overseas students on arrival if requested. She arranges an orientation programme to help incoming students to adapt to life in Galway, organises social and cultural events, and provides advice and support.
Suitable accommodation is important in adapting to life in Galway. The University's Accommodation Office provides a list of apartments and lodgings. Purpose-built student residences are recommended for the first year. These provide single or shared rooms in clusters of houses on the campus, within a seven-minute walk of the faculty buildings.
