Research Interests

My specific interests are the dynamics of microbial communities involved in the anaerobic digestion of industrial wastestreams, in response to changes in both wastewater composition and operational parameters, such as temperature. My research to date includes the use of culture-based (e.g. anaerobic enrichment cultures & specific methanogenic activity tests), molecular (e.g. 16S rRNA gene cloning, PCR-DGGE and T-RFLP) and microscopic techniques (e.g. epifluorescence microscopy, fluorescence in situ hybridisation) for microbial ecology.
