Professor L. Kieran Dunican Memorial Medal 
The Professor L. Kieran Dunican Memorial Medal was established by former and current students, and colleagues,
of the late
Prof. Dunican, who served as the Head of Department of
Microbiology since its establishment in 1965 until 1998.
The Medal is awarded to the student achieving the highest grade in the B.Sc. in Microbiology at NUI Galway. A list of all the recipients from 2000-2011 is available

Ruth Kelly (Oranmore) is presented with the Professor L. Kieran

First presentation of the medal - 2000
The first presentation of the Prof. L. Kieran Dunican Memorial Medal was made to Ms. Clare McGinley from Carrick, Co. Donegal. Ms. McGinley achieved the best examination result in the 2000 class of the NUI Galway B. Sc. (Hon) degree in Microbiology. The medal was presented to Ms. McGinley by Ms. Rita Dunican. Also pictured are Prof. Emer Colleran (retired) and the late Dr. Richard Powell.

2001
The second presentation of the Prof. L. Kieran Dunican Memorial Medal
was made to Ms. Belinda O’Grady from Galway City. Ms. O’Grady achieved
the best examination result in the 2001 class of the NUI Galway B. Sc.
(Hon) degree in Microbiology. The medal was presented to Ms. O’Grady by
Ms. Rita Dunican. Also pictured are Prof. Emer Colleran (then Head of Microbiology) and the late Dr. Richard Powell.
