About microbiology at nui galway
Founding and History
1965
The Department of Microbiology was established at the
National University of Ireland Galway (NUI Galway) by the late
Professor L.K. Dunican.
(See
Dunican Medal.)

1988
Microbiology moved to a purpose-designed building situated at the back of the New Concourse on the west bank of the river Corrib. This building includes independent research laboratories and offices for Microbiology staff.
Microbiology at NUI Galway also houses dedicated undergraduate teaching (2nd and 3rd year BSc students) laboratories and lecture theatres.
2007
The academic structure at NUI Galway was modernised and Microbiology is now one of 5 disciplines (along with
Biochemistry,
Earth & Ocean Science,
Botany (Plant Science) and
Zoology) that make up the new School of Natural Sciences. To read on the structure of the College of Science at NUI Galway, please click
