NUIG Library databases

You can access the NUI Galway Library directly or by clicking the link on home page of the Student Launchpad. Detailed instructions for accessing library databases are contained in the Introduction to the Library presentation (delivered at the IT Online Orientation Day by Fiona Quinlan, Engineering & Informatics librarian). The following online databases, accessible when you are logged into the NUIG Library, are useful for IT research:

  • ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Digital Library
  • IEEE Explore
  • Compendex

Setting up Google Scholar

Google Scholar cross-searches databases owned by universities, publishers and scholarly societies. It's a great alternative to Google when you are doing research. You may find an article which is behind a paywall, so you should set up Google Scholar so that you can access resources which are accessible via the NUIG Library. Here's how:

  • Click Settings and then Library links in Google Scholar
  • Enter 'NUI Galway' and then tick the boxes which appear
  • Enter 'Regis University' and then tick the boxes which appear

Now when Google Scholar searches return results which are in pay-only databases, you will be able to link to the full text of the articles (if they are in the subscriptions of NUIG an/or Regis).
