Facilities
This section is intended to be a guide to the types of microscopy facilities available in Ireland. We would encourage memebrs to submit data to us so that we can upload the information to the website. I would ask potential contributers to include web addresses for the individual instruments and contact people.
National University of Ireland-Galway:
NUI-Galway has had a substantial investement in microscopy facilities over the past decade. Some of the laboratories and microscopes are listed below:
The Nanoscale Biophotonics Laboratory at NUI-Galway have an advanced suite of confocal microscopes, which include:
- Inverted FLIM-FCS confocal microscope with climate control chamber for live cell imaging, 470 and 532 nm excitation sources (Alba, ISS, Champaign, Illinois).
- Upright FLIM-FCS confocal microscope with 405 and 635 nm excitation sources.
- Upright Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope (ThorLabs VCH100) to be adapted for FLIM & FCS using plug in TCSPC hardware (Picoquant).
- TIRF microscope (Olympus), 3 laser sources (405, 470, and 532 nm), Andor EMCCD camera fitted for low light imaging (due for delivery, May 2008).
- 1 x ICCD-FLIM microscope (405 nm excitation).
- 1 x HTS Raman system, macroscale imaging, 785 nm excitation (Avalon/Perkin-Elmer).
- 1 x Confocal Raman microscope, 488 and 785 nm excitation (JY-Horiba).
These systems are used for a variety of research projects in the life and physical sciences and are being continually upgraded to add functionality.
The Department of Anatomy at NUI-Galway have a variety of microscopy systems, which include:
There is more information to be added here.
In other departments within NUI-Galway there are a variety of microscopy systems, including:
- Multi-photon confocal (Zeiss), SEM & TEM (Hitachi), AFM, NCBES.
- FV300 Confocal (Olympus), Zoology.
