May 30: We are accepting applications for PhD research via the new
NUIG Hardiman Research Scholarships which have just been announced.
There are projects available in the areas of
bioanalytical methods for biopharmaceutical applications, Raman & Fluorescence Spectroscopy, polymer characterization, general fluorophore photo-physics,
protein-surface characterization, and
advanced microscopy.
Interested candidates can
email for more information. The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday June 17th 2011.
I also welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates who wish to apply for the IRCSET postgraduate research scholarship scheme and are interested in spectroscopy or chemometrics based research. In particular we would encourage applicants who have an interest in advanced biophysical techniques and microscopy. Applicants would be required to have a high first class honors grade in chemistry or physics throughout their undergraduate education. This call will open in late 2011.
We hope to advertise a postdoctoral vacancy early in the new year to work on an industry funded bioanalytical project. We will be looking for someone with a strong background in spectroscopy (fluorescence, Raman, NIR), chemometrics, and biotechnology. Interested parties can contact Dr. Alan Ryder to discuss.
We also welcome applications for the
IRCSET EMPOWER postdoctoral fellowship programme.
We are always interested in Marie Curie Incoming Fellowship applications from suitably qualified candidates in the areas of fluorescence spectroscopy and process analytical technologies.

In addition to the specific positions outlined above we have
opportunities for research in several other areas of fluorescence and
Raman spectroscopy.
Funding for Ph.D. research is also available from
IRCSET postgraduate research scholarship scheme. These awards provides a maintenance award of
€16,000, pays fees, and some travel/training expenses.
The awards are open to all EU citizens and very exceptional candidates from outside the EU.
See

The next call is due out in Jan 2011.
For non-Irish nationals the Marie Curie programme now offers a range
of fellowship funding opportunities. Details and application forms are
available on the
Marie Curie website.
The
MolRec UREKA programme
(Molecular Recognition) for undergraduate researchers to spend time in a
research laboratory is operated by Science Foundation Ireland. We
welcome students with backgrounds in biochemistry, chemistry, or physics
to apply for the scheme which will fund placements of between 10 and 12
weeks. There is one call per year, usually announced in Nov./Dec. with
a closing date in February-March. In 2011 we have taken on two students. This programme will not be available next year.
We will also from time to time host visiting undergraduate researchers under EU or other programmes. Interested parties should get in contact by email.
