The Organisms and Environment Research Cluster

The Organisms and Environment Research Cluster (OERC) focuses on the role of plants, animals and microorganisms in biological communities, from an ecological and an evolutionary perspective. Some of the research themes include: Systematics; Sustainable use of biodiversity; Aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem function and health; Environmental impacts (climate change, habitat loss and degradation) on species and community assembly; Population dynamics of native and invasive species. Funding is secured from a variety of sources including Science Foundation Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, The Environmental Protection Agency, Teagasc, Coillte, the Marine Institute, National Parks and Wildlife Service, EU Framework programmes and European Research Council.
