Enterprise Ireland Biotechnology Directorate at NUI, Galway

Enterprise Ireland (EI) has established a new Biotechnology Directorate, which will complement Enterprise Ireland 's Biotech strategy by specifically focusing on technology transfer and University-based initiatives.  This Biotechnology Directorate, which evolved from BioResearch Ireland , works in partnership with all third level institutes in Ireland , including the National University of Ireland, Galway , to commercialise the outputs of publicly-funded research for Ireland 's food, health and life sciences sectors.

The Enterprise Ireland Biotechnology (EI Bio) Directorate, in partnership with the Technology Transfer Officers of the third level institutions, will form the crucial link in the commercialisation chain: connecting the researchers who conduct the research, and the entrepreneurs, industrialists and companies who apply the fruits of that research.

In collaboration with the Director of Industrial Liaison of NUI, Galway , EI Bio staff located on campus at NUI, Galway are available to provide the following services to interested academics:

Competitive intelligence - access to databases and market reports

Advice & assistance with proposals for EI Commercialisation funds

      Help with finding research partners

Monitoring of  EI-funded projects for novel IP & advice on protection

Showcase technologies through our website www.biotechnologyireland.com

Campus based EI Bio staff also act as a conduit to our specialised EI Bio Commercialisation Team and EI Sectoral staff that can provide the following services:

      Introduction to potential clients

      Brokerage of licensing deals

      Advice on start-up company formation

Negotiation & management of industrial contracts

Enterprise Ireland 's strategy for the development of the biotechnology and life sciences industries aims to significantly increase the number of companies in the sector between now and 2006.
