Dr Henry Hutchinson Stewart Medical Scholarships & Prizes 2012

Hearty congratulations to Yvonne McDonagh and Elizabeth Howard who won prizes in the prestigious annual Dr. Henry Hutchinson Medical Scholarships awards for 2012.

This competition is across the NUI Universities and the awards are based on student’s results from the final degree examinations in Nursing/Midwifery. Our first graduates were in 2006 and since then every year students from the School of Nursing & Midwifery have won prizes including an amazing 6 first-prize winners!

This year Elizabeth Howard from Tipperary achieved 3rd place in Ireland for Midwifery and Yvonne McDonagh from Galway wasn’t to be outdone, also achieving 3rd place in Ireland for General Nursing!

Catherine Meagher, a lecturer in the school and Yvonne’s academic advisor commented that “Yvonne is diligent, respectful, and conscientious and above all she shows great empathy towards patients and their families. It was my pleasure to be her academic advisor”

Prof. Declan Devane, a lecturer in NUI Galway and the only professor of Midwifery in Ireland commenting on Elizabeth's win said: 'We are really delighted with Lisa's success in the Midwifery category of the Dr H H Stewart 2012 awards. Lisa's success is a testament to the hard work she put in over the past 4 years and to the quality of midwifery education at NUI Galway. We are very proud of Lisa and the midwifery team here in the School look forward very much to watching Lisa develop her career in midwifery.'
