The module begins by addressing issues surrounding pain, sedation, agitation and delirium in the critically ill patient. It discusses caring for the patient with altered renal functioning, and the modalities used to treat this group of patients. The module concludes with a discussion of issues concerning caring for patients with altered renal functioning. The overall aim of the module is to enhance further your knowledge of the principles of intensive care nursing. This module is comprised of four units.
Unit 1: Focuses on the assessment and management of pain and sedation in the critically ill patient. It also addresses issues surrounding palliative care issues surrounding loss/bereavement and end of life.
Unit 2: Addresses the care of patients with altered renal functioning.
Unit 3: This unit will focus on the nursing care of patients with Altered Protective Mechanism such as the oncology and haematology patients in the critical care unit.
Unit 4: Focuses on best practice in relation to patients with alteration in gastro intestinal system.

Requirement for Undertaking the Module:
