Policy envisions a community based mental health service where hospital admissions will be greatly reduced. Well-trained staff, community-based, multidisciplinary CMHTs (Community Mental Health Teams) should be put in place for all mental health services. There is also a requirement for the broader MDT to be aware of and able to deliver psycho social interventions PSIs.
There are four units in this module:
Unit 1: Cognitive behavioural therapy
Cognitive behavioural therapeutic approaches in the management of mental illness symptoms and the research evidence supporting these approaches.
Unit 2: Solution focused therapy
This unit looks at solution focused approaches in the management of mental illness and the research evidence supporting these approaches.
Unit 3: Working with families
Family work for psychosis.
The importance of family and friends in the promotion of recovery.
Unit 4: Self-help interventions in health care and Behavioural Activation Therapy
This unit looks at self-help interventions in particular guided self help. It also looks at how Behavioural Activation techniques may be employed to address the negative symptoms associated with mental illness and the research evidence supporting these approaches.
Target Market
This module details a range of psychosocial interventions, their evidence and application. This module would be of use to any health care worker who aims to develop their PSI skills.
