Research Projects/Grants

• 2008 – ongoing: Co-Investigator for a HRB funded study examining the impact of a Dementia Reminiscence Programme for Staff on the agitated behaviours of residents with dementia, their quality of life and on staff attitudes towards residents with dementia and perceived care burden (the DARES study) (€300,000)
• 2008 – ongoing: Co-Investigator on a national study funded by the National Council for the Professional Development of Nurses and Midwives evaluating the clinical services provided by clinical nurse and midwife specialists and advanced nurses and midwife practitioners in Ireland (the SCAPE study)
• 2008 – ongoing: Leader of a practice development project in a long-stay care setting funded by the Nursing Midwifery Planning Development Unit, HSE West.  (€10,000)
• 2007-ongoing: Co-Investigator for a HRB funded study exploring the impact of a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme for People with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in Primary Care in Ireland. (€652,079)
• 2007-2008: Co-Investigator on an international study funded by Atlantic Philanthropies investigating the role of migrant health and social care workers in the delivery of care to older people. (€80,000)
• 2006: Co-Investigator on a national study examining the quality of life of older people living with a disability of chronic illness in Ireland included stroke funded by the NCOAP. (€107,000)
• 2005 – 2006: Co-investigator of project focused on implementing person centred care for older people in one long-stay care unit. funded by the Nursing Midwifery Planning and Development Unit, HSE West. (€10,000)
• 2004: Co-Investigator on a national study examining the quality of life of older people living in long-stay care facilities funded by the NCAOP. (€100,000)
• 2003: Co-Investigator on an exploratory study investigating the effectiveness of reflection as a learning strategy funded by the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, NUI, Galway. (€1000)
• 2001: Co-Investigator on a study examining the nurses’ role in promoting health funded by the Western Health Board (€20,000)
